Photo Feature 31 July 2007: July Festivals

Bonjour madames et monsieurs, and welcome to your Tuesday photo feature. Apologies for missing Friday, there were technical difficulties which precluded my posting. It seems to all be fixed now, though, so I can get back to the business of pointing out some of the great photography in our fair city.

Would you like to be pointed out? All you have to do is join the Beyond Robson Flickr group and start submitting your photos of Greater Vancouver, then play the waiting game. Submit soon and submit often, the competition gets stiffer every day!

This past weekend we had two big events in the city: The Illuminares Lantern Festival and the HSBC Celebration of Light. Together they make up today's theme.

On the right is Celebration of Light -Canada by eyesplash Mikul, which is one of the better shots of the fireworks I have seen so far. Brilliant composition and colours, and wonderfully sharp for a long exposure too.

I *heart* East Van @ Illuminares by random dude. There are lots of photos from Illuminares on Flickr, but this one stands out to me quite a bit. It's well composed, and it shows the creativity behind the lanterns, but mostly I think it has to do with that Illuminares, at least in my mind, is a decidedly East Van event, so it's nice to see them represent.

Or something like that anyway.

I'll be letting the photographers know that their names are now up in lights, so let's all applaud their fine work. Woo!
