Is urban farming an essential part of Vancouver's future?
An urban farming exhibition can be found this month at the Museum of Vancouver thanks to FarmFolkCityFolk. The key feature of the exhibit will be a series of photographs by Brian Harris of various methods of growing food in an urban environment. For those not familiar, FarmFolkCityFolk is a non-profit organization that supports locally produced food as a means of conserving some of the resources normally used to transport food long distances, among other things. Sounds like something No Impact Man would pee his locally manufactured tree bark pants that he bartered for at the very thought of.

Declining Cuisine Means Increased Disappointment in City's Restaraunts
Is it just me, or have all the 'middle-of-the-road' restaurants in Vancouver gone totally back alley? Not in a "Seriously, the dude in the back alley selling chili dogs is a culinary genius" sort of way; it's more in a "I can't believe I just paid 20 bucks for this embarrassing excuse for a salad" sort of way. To clarify, middle-of-the-road, often described as the '$$' restaurants in guidebooks, means I'm expecting to pay around $20 for an entree (including tip), the service is decent (not great), and my napkin is made of cloth. And lately, I've noticed that Vancouver's middle-of-the-road $$ restaurants (many of which are located along the waterfront) are particularly guilty of declining cuisine.

An Outsider's Romp Through BC's Microbrew Culture
My second year of university brought with it an unexpected crisis of circumstance. I had a taste for gin and decent wine, and a disdain for hops and malt -- but I also had a bank account that ached for the cheaper option, no matter how noxious it tasted. And so I caved. I kissed (or chugged), out of necessity, the world of fine dorm room highballs good bye, bit the sudsy bullet and started to figure out how to choke down a pint without making it too terribly obvious that I was holding my breath. What Do You Think About Vancouver's New (and Controversial) Food Cart Lineup?
Score! For those of you who haven't heard yet, the heavily-salivated over list of food cart winners has been announced by the City. I'm excited, especially after my much-discussed BR article about the possibilities, where you all shared awesome and inspirational food ideas! And the winners are... (drumroll, please): Food
Teahouse Takes Fresh to a New Level with Edible Garden
Teahouse in Stanley Park announced this week a secret which has been growing for the past few months: an edible garden in their own backyard. I spent the afternoon tasting the bounty and bombarding Sous Chef Scott McLennan with questions and tour demands.
