Yesterday I had lunch at that fabulously charming little French cafe, which is part of the French Cultural Centre on West Seventh Avenue, just east of Granville, Salade de Fruits. It is one of those rare spots where the food never fails to satisfy (thanks to the wonderfull richness of French food) and your bill is always less than you expected. Also you get to practice your rusty French; the menus are in French and the servers are all native French speakers.

So, yes, this is blatant plug for the restaurant, against the protestations of my lunch partner, who wanted it to remain a best kept secret. Oh well, I never was good at keeping secrets.

The menu is typical French. There are 'moules et frites', mussels and french fries (no ketchup for the fries, just lots of mayo, mmm.) which I highly recommend. As well there are daily quiches, soups and salads, along with other lunch specials. Dinner requires a reservation and has a weekly set three course menu, which you can check out on their website (there is an a la carte dinner menu as well). And I just noticed that they have weekend brunches.

If you haven't been, I suggest you start practising your French now.
