Good Eats and Good Karma at Dharma Kitchen

Weird, I've passed by this place hundreds of time, by the Broadway-Alma connection, and never noticed its humble exterior. I even looked for it a few times, after my roommate raved on about its delectable, well-priced menu, but couldn't find the damn place. Well I finally came across its physical address in Earth Save's handy and super comprehensive new vegetarian food guide, which had Dharma Kitchen listed under the Vegan heading. Well that struck me as a surprise considering the props from my carnivorous roomie. I knew I had to check the joint.

I went with my friend and we split a tamarind soup, which was light and tasty but not super exciting.
The Dharma salad turned out to be bigger and more filling than it looked, and it rather rocked. Sundried tomatoes, plump artichoke hearts and strips of grilled veggies all nestled in a bed of organic romaine. And a huge serving of some stellar spicy thai dressing which we proceeded to drench everything with.
The entrees all looked excellent, with healthy doses of tempeh and "tofu steak" dishes. The red curry was as tasty as anticipated. Well, i did get into some salt-shaker action, but that's what happens when you eat in healthy joints.
I should mention that nothing on the entire menu is more than $10, which is Vancouver rarity. Dharma Kitchen's been there for a year and a half, run by a devout buddhist who has no interest in doing much promotion. Well word of mouth works, as does the internet. This is a great place to catch a non-greasy, good karma kind of meal.
