Enigma and the Elusive Turkey

Enigma's no mystery. Get it? Get it? Yeah, I'm funny.
But ANYWAY, Enigma- this family-friendly, Point Grey area restaurant - is pretty easy to understand. It's got a big menu full of reasonably priced comfort food, the decor is classy, but understated, the walls feature local artists, and they have turkey on the menu, so I loved it.

I have this thing about turkey. About all the foods you might classify as "holiday food", really. Stuffing, gravy, pumpkin pie! I loooooove that stuff. At the same time, I don't eat any of it all that often. It's not readily availble at restaurants and it's such a hassle to prepare it all. And I live in a two person household. With that in mind, even the smallest available turkeys seem a little excessive.

So when I noticed that Enigma had a classic turkey dinner (with all the trimmings) on their menu (for only $16), I was pumped. The meal ended up being a teeny bit of a let down, because the all-white meat dinner was a little dry (and I prefer dark meat... fatty goodness, and all that), but all in all, I enjoyed it. My meal came with good gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and veggies, and the restaurant has a good selection of reasonable wines (many from the Oaknagan valley). I left stuffed.

I should also say that if turkey isn't your thing, with separate menus for brunch, lunch, dinner, kids, drinks and dessert there's plenty of choice and (this part is clichéd, but true) Enigma really does offer a little something for everyone.

It's also got a neat homey thing going, thanks to the owners, a south African couple, and their son. They milled around the entire time we were there, chatting with customers, and just generally contributing to the family-vibe.

Oh, and did I mention the turkey?
