A Taste of Yaletown: Foodies Get Your Swank On

20071024_Taste_of_Yaletown.jpg The glittering restaurants of Vancouver that speak of celebrity sightings and magazine back pages tend to be out of my price range. Of course, just like any other aspiring foodie, I pretend that I wouldn't be caught dead in any place masquerading as a Who's-a-wannabe-Who of the city pretties, but secretly I know that if the price point dropped a few bills I'd be a lot more interested in checking out a menu.

Lucky for me and other budget gourmets, a few times each year Vancouver restaurants set their menus and lower their prices. This month (until the 28th), the foodie spotlight is on Yaletown digs, with 21 neighbourhood restaurants offering $25, $35, and $45 three-course set menus.

Although a few decidedly average places have snuck in the mix, there's a decent offering of some pretty swanky restaurants made suddenly affordable, Brix Restaurant & Wine Bar, Elixir and Amacord Ristorante Italiano, among them. Diners who avoid white linen and polished service might consider places popular with Yaletown's young and hip set, like Glowbal Satay Bar & Grill, Section 3, and Capone's Jazz Cellar. Check out a full list of participating restaurants and menus.

It may not offer the breadth of eats as Tourism Vancouver's upcoming Dine Out Vancouver, but A Taste of Yaletown might be enough to whet your appetite... Or pick up a date impressed by such things.
