Parlour Steps and The Great Perhaps

"I am going to seek a great perhaps. Draw the curtain: the farce is played out" - Famous last words of Francois Rabelais.

Vancouver indie band Parlour Steps rocked the Railway Club Friday night, launching their latest CD called "The Great Perhaps" to local fans and music lovers. I was lucky enough to have a front row seat (albeit sitting on the floor) for a full house show! I think frontman Caleb Stull might have sweated on me.

Not 100% sure if the CD title has anything to do with Rabelais' last words, but I have to think that this is a new beginning for Parlour Steps. Having taken the better part of two years to record this CD and undergoing a major lineup change with the departure of Kim Stewart, it seemed that there was a great sense of release as the band played through their set. It was a fantastic performance all around and props go to Rees, Julie, and Rob for providing THE ROCK!

For me, the great perhaps is that this new album just might push Parlour Steps into mainstream radar screens, and that's a good thing. And with the recent exposure the band has been receiving, it might just be a matter of time.

Note to P.S.: Don't forget to book my band PAINT (insert shameless plug: www.thepaintsite.com) when you're looking for an opener!!

That was indeed a shameless plug. I hope that will be the last.

"That was indeed a shameless plug. I hope that will be the last." ...

After that comment, I'm sure any subsequent plugs will be very shameful indeed. (I know I'm feeling bad now about plugs I haven't even made yet!)

well, a plug isn't really a bad thing. But I don't know, on the very first post?!! No hard feelings. I hope we are all open to making this a kick ass blog.

Also, hair plugs are just right out. no hair plugs please.

If you'll excuse a comment that's not plug-related: I, too, was at the Parlour Steps CD release party at the Railway, likely standing behind the author getting sweated on by Caleb Stull, and I must say they sounded freakin' great - much as I loved the Kim Stewart-era Steps, the addition of Julie seems to have kicked the boys' asses a bit, and they sound tighter than ever! (The music, that is, not their asses...)
