Dear Promoters:
Holy smokes, you guys really outdid yourselves! You made 2005 a really great party year. Vancouver was blessed with many wonderful DJs, from all over the electronica family tree, and we only have you to thank. Thank you.
Today is the last day (and night) of this seminal year and though I'm sure you're up to your eyeballs in last minute planning for tonight's big soiree I'm sure you are already wondering how you will outdo yourselves in 2006. How can you possibly surpass this year's starstudded and incredibly creative roster?
That, my friend, is a difficult, if not torturous question. Please, let me help...
5. Soulwax. I've seen them live and they rock but I've heard them spin and they are sensational. We all know they have mad mixing skills (they were, after all, 2 Many DJs) but as Soulwax there is way less emphasis on being ecclectic and way more on DANCEDANCEDANCE because they start hard and they stay hard and they end hard and that's a wonderful thing. And you know what else is wonderful? This trancey route electro is taking as of late. Love
4. Trentemoller. Why is minimal so sexy?
3. DJ Hell. His sets have been hit and miss lately but he is the owner of International Deejay Gigolo Records, hence, he has access to some of the craziest shit out there.
2. Vitalic. Live PA or DJing, I don't care just bring him to Vancouver. There is no other producer out there who's music sends a charge through me like this one and just like The Hacker turned people onto techno when he played in Vancouver this past fall so will Vitalic when he screeches Poney Part 1 through the speakers and into our hearts and soles. I also want to hear him mix Polkamatic somewhere in there too.
1. The Hacker. Let's face it, the French are genius.
Bonus: Tiga. He has some explaining and redeeming to do after that awful excuse of an electro set he played at Sonar (November, 2004). I don't know one person who wasn't disappointed with his set and I don't know one person who can't wait for him to touch back down in Vancouver and give it another go.

Alhough I was unable to go to many of the great shows, I definately agree that 2005 was one of Vancouvers best years of international and mostly resident DJ performances. Yes, thanks, and much appreciation to the promoters who have stayed persistant in maintaining the small but very tasteful house music scene. Ending the year with excitement and anticipation for what's to come in 2006. Cheers Ariadna and Cheers to Vancouver!
