Punk and metal tribute bands would appear to be something of a theme for the night leading up to New Year's Eve. For anyone interested in warming up before the main event on Saturday evening, here's something to get you started.

The Asbalt at the Astoria Hotel has a full slate of bands including tributes to The Misfits (The Mishits), Black Sabbath (Sack Blabbath), and Van Halen (Ham Wailen'). For added fun, there's the Taboo Revue Burlesque, whose Candy Curves will also be singing with The Mishits.

The Brickyard has local Iron Maiden tribute band Powerclown who will be done up like clowns, and will sing all the Maiden hits. It's got to be hard to Run To The Hillsin big floppy shoes, but it might make it easier to Die With Your Boots On.

I have a feeling that much of both of these shows could be taken in by those really looking for an all-inclusive tribute band experience. I haven't seen any mention of opening acts at the Power Clown show, but I'd be willing to bet that the headliners aren't dragging on stage at the Brickyard much before midnight, and much of the show at the Asbalt should be over by that point. It's conceivable that you could catch two of the bands and some half naked girls on East Hastings before making a mad dash up the street to Carrall ... I'll let you know how my plan to do exactly that works out.

I know that the show at The Asbalt will run you $5, but the Brickyard's price wasn't listed on the poster, but they do promise fabulous cash door prizes...
