I became the music snot I am today by doing research. After a few years of unfocused teenage raving I started to figure out what music made me shimmy and what genres made me light up a cigarette. After a while I would never blindly walk into a rave. I had to read the flyer in its entirety to see if the party was worth my money and time. If I hadn't already been to a party by that productions company or if I didn't know the DJs or at least like their taste in music I wouldn't partake. The bar totally dropped once I returned from Buenos Aires and I didn't really know what was going on in Vancouver's nightlife but I'm very pleased to say that I'm back to being stringent with my partying standards.

Until tonight. Tonight I'm going to The Lotus to check out some Brit called Desyn Masiello play progressive. He was recently here in Vancouver and a girl friend of mine told me he was great. I don't really trust her opinion though. But then Kristian Littman, in his DJs Make the World Go 'Round interview, said that Desyn "gave all of us a kick in the ass and showed there are still new sounds to be found!" But, you know, I don't really trust him either.

I'm all gung-ho about going without having heard one track or mix or remix by this young fellow because Kristian said "new sounds" and I just read on Desyn's bio that he's been partying since he was sixteen and he went to acid house parties and he went to a bunch of Spiral Tribe parties. SOLD TO THE YOUNG BLOGGER WEARING NO PANTS!

O ya, another thing I like about young Desyn is that his bio says what music he's actually into (classic, tech, progressive, deep, funky). It's infuriating to go to a site and not be able to figure out what kind of music the DJ likes. As if that weren't the most important thing about him?!?!

Anyway, tomorrow Desyn Masiello will play what he wants to play for four hours and Kevin Shiu (who still owes me an interview, *ahem*) will be opening.

Tickets are $20 in advance and more at the door. O, and you'll want to get there early because there's alway a line-up.
