If you listen to only one thin genre of music, you'll die empty. Regardless of what you listen to; metal, pop, rock and/or roll, coffee house acoustic song poems, blues, or hip hop, there are some bands that you really should give a chance. Sometimes you're lucky and those bands are locals, playing nearly every weekend in small venues, and you have no excuse not to see them play. I like to think that three such acts in Vancouver are They Shoot Horses, Don't They, Pink Mountaintops, and The Blackie & Kytami Revolution.
April 5 is your chance to catch The Pink Mountaintops at Richard's on Richards before they leave town. For support at the Vancouver show, there will be Frog Eyes, and Amber & Josh (of Black Mountain).
I haven't had the chance to listen to the entire new album "Axis of Evol", released earlier this month, but the samples I heard sound familiar. Maybe you want to provide some comparisons to make it easier to understand. Maybe bands like Velvet Underground would come up, or maybe midcareer Jesus and Mary Chain or maybe even bits from an early, twangy Mountaingoats, or perhaps The Kinks. Maybe you might insist on speaking about the differences between this project and Black Mountain's output. Whatever the comparison, this is a band with a solid lineup, a sound that runs the gamut from alt-country to guitar rock that could be at home in the 70s.
The Shoot Horses won't be back in town for a while, as they're still out on tour on the east coast, but Kytami's Revolution is playing The Cellar Tuesday April 4th.

Ok Sean, I am going to buy a few of these cd's. I don't want to die empty that is for sure.
