Stanton Warriors Invade Vancouver - April 1st 2006

Stanton Warriors are a DJ/production duo best known for their funk-ified mix of breaks, garage and jungle. Vancouverites know them for rocking Sonar last year, back when Sonar still hosted these kind of shows.

Stanton Warriors have a newly launched website, a slow-loading Flash monstrosity but pretty nonetheless.

More goods on the show after the jump!

On a personal note, the Stantons (Dominic B and Mark Yardley) are responsible for one of my all-time favourite DJ mixes, The Stanton Sessions. That disc may be almost 5 years old now, but its distinctive blend of hip hop, energetic breakbeats and uppity 2-step carries over into the Stanton's work to this day. I'd go as far as saying the boys from London are at the forefront of defining the modern club sound for breakbeats: it's accessible, unpretentious and is just perfect dancefloor bait.

If you have any doubts, go on to their MySpace page and listen to their 5-minute mini mix Right there is your pure shot of the Stanton sound and a pretty accurate preview of what to expect come Saturday night at Richards on Richards.

Opening act for the Stantons is countrman, Tipper, who is also no slouch in the breaks department. Chances are good you will see him toting a laptop on stage, which ough to ellicit some wise-ass remarks from DJ purists. Such remarks will cease, of course, once Tipper lays his hands on some vinyl. The man scratches, and he scratches well.
