Dance Therapy - Gettin' Freq Nasty on April 28th

Oh I love a good breaks show in Vancouver. Tomorrow evening is your chance to catch VIVID's presentation of Freq Nasty at Richard's on Richards.

Mr. Nasty comes to us from New Zealand and has been a prominent figure in the global breakbeat scene since the mid-90s. I confess to not keeping up with his work these past couple years, even as he makes regular visits to our fine city and showing up at various festivals, like Shambhala (2004).

Freq Nasty's DJ sets are difficult to pin down. It's a constant reinvention of the standard nu skool breaks sound with extra helpings of ragga and hip-hop influences. If you go, and I fully encourage you to do so, you won't be served a cookie-cutter experience.

As if you needed more convincing, K-Swing from New York will be opening up the night. Don't know too much about her, except that she's widely known as Adam Freeland's protege, which is just another way of saying she was trained by God. I'm notorioius for arriving to clubs late but I can always make exceptions for talented female DJs. I'm optimistic she'll live up to her pedigree.

Finally, rumour has it Freq Nasty will challenge K-Swing to a hair fight. My money's on him.

Tickets are $15 and available at: Boomtown, Zulu, Beat Street & Vinyl.

But K-Swing's hair is so bouyant and shiny. I think she conditions twice a day.
