Rockabilly, Cobalt Style

It's almost like everyone got lost on the way to The Railway Club, and ended up rocking Main Street. In the video above you can witness a small bit of The Slickjacks who opened Saturday night for Vancouver Roots / Rockabilly / Country / Blues / Whatever oldtimers Bughouse 5 at The Cobalt Pub.
Rev. Corndog and Lisa Furr from The Slickjacks were on hand during the renovations of the Cobalt, assisting with tiling, general construction and anything that could even remotely employ a nailgun. They were eager to bring in their instruments and put the sound system to the test, but chose to wait until T. Paul's Pompadour Benefit to really kick off.
It's not punk unless someone bleeds, it would seem, and Lisa set the mood nice and proper after a couple of songs, when her bass-plucking blisters decided they'd had enough. Sadly, I couldn't get a good picture of her hands, but talk about suffering for the music; the tips of all her fingers were puffy and white from the practicing. Take some time off from playing, and this is the kind of thing that happens, I suppose.
The Slickjacks are tentatively playing July 10th at the Cobalt with Mr. Plow side project Hellbent Cuntry. It's a monday, but this is a show you should make a bit of room in your schedule for. Hellbent Cuntry's first public show was a week ago, and I'm including a link to download the least morally offensive song from their set; a redneck re-imagining of SNFU's Cannibal Cafe. Hellbent Country also provided a Two Live Crew countrified cover, and a guest vocalist spot with wendythirteen; an experience that defies ready description.

Glad all is well with the Cobalt.
