Don't Sell Hotdogs Tonight

One of the least prolific teams in Canadian Rock Music history, The Leather Uppers, will be in town Friday night, touring to support their second ever full length release Bright Lights. They will serenade the True Believers with their classic rock anthems about the sweet sweet Sugar Sandwich and they will tell you Don't Sell Hotdogs before covering politically meaningful topics such as Riot At The Nude Beach. Levels upon levels.
They only appear in town once every couple years, often interrupted by the band breaking up. You never know how much longer they'll stick it out, so go see them this weekend. They'll undoubtedly be breaking out some new pieces such as Wizard's Castles about that long defunct chain of video game arcades in the 80s and 90s that lured so many high school geeks to their doom, and the sure-to-be-a-love-song Scream If You're High.
They'll be on CiTR with Nardwuar in the afternoon, and will be performing at the Waldorf (1489 East Hastings) tomorrow night with local opening acts The Tranzmitors (ex-Smugglers, New Town Animals, Parallels) and Split Singles (ex-New Town Animals, Gung-hos, Dirty Needles, Ladies Night).
In doubt? Check out their performance at SXSW 2006 on YouTube (yes, the title credits are wrong; it's not my video). There's also a live stream of a radio show at WFMU (in Real Audio format).
Failing all of that, there's always MySpace.
