Calling all Children of the 80's

01182007-robsoncoreyf.jpgIf you're anything like me, you're a child of the 80's, and can recite Stand By Me, Goonies, & the Lost Boys verbatim.

Ok, well, even if you CAN'T (and no one will hold that against you), then you at least need to head to the Plaza Club on Friday night for a one time only, first Canadian performance ever of The Truth Movement. I know, I had to ask who they were too.

Frontman Corey Feldman (ding ding ding! that'll ring a bell or two) and his ever present sidekick, Corey Haim, are in town filming a "reality sitcom" for A&E, and to fill their off hours, they're holding a concert.

This seven member band has released three albums (who knew?) including one called Still Searching for Soul.

Admission to the concert - marking the band's debut appearance in Vancouver is by donation to the Food Bank. Doors open at 8 p.m., with the concert scheduled to kick off at 9 p.m. And yes, Haim will put in an appearance on stage as well. I know, I'm as shocked as you are.

Like OMG! I soooo rememember these Tiger Beat hunks of the 80s.
Oh my, come to think of it I remember loads from that era!
Ah, born in the 70's.... aren't we lucky!
A walk down memory lane:
... You are a child of the 80s if you remember using Betamax instead of VCR...
... if you could sing along to the theme song of "Three's Company"
... if you remember Alf, and Mrs. Garrett
... you owned a Minipops album and sang along!
... you remember that computer time involved making triangles with a "turtle" using the arrow keys
... you, or someone you knew, etched NKTOB on school binders
... you wore jelly sandals and jam shorts
... you played videogames with Colecovision, Commodore 64, and Atari using a joystick! (The running pad and Duck Hunt came later)
... you still have memories of Expo 86: "The Scream Machine", yellow/blue/red/purple/pink zones, The McBarge, and Expo Ernie
... you know who Loni is from WKRP in Cinncinat
... you had stick-up mall bangs, a mullet, experimented with "Sun-in" spray, and/or had a 'tail'!
... you used remote controls and telephones with a *cord*!!
... you remember Big Red gum ads, "Leggo my Eggo", Chips Ahoy's ads with people trying to bite a Chips Ahoy cookie without biting a chip, the 9-lives cat food commercial with Morris the cat, the Bonkers candy ad (huge fruits would fall from the sky and knock out the eater), "Kibbles and Bits", and you knew the words to McDonald's new Big Mac: "two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese - pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun"
... you wore acid or stone washed jeans and "tightrolls": jeans pinched rolled at the cuffs -- sometimes with slouch socks (in flourescent yellow!)
... you remember when the mini-van took over the station van (Dodge Voyager!)
.... you remember Booger, Gilbert, and Takashi in Revenge of the Nerds
... you watched Mr. Belvedere, My Two Dads, Beverly Hills 90210, Dr. Who, Webster, Mork and Mindy, and Punky Brewster, and Charles in Charge (of me!)
... you owned a boombox and played mixed tapes of pop, rap, rock, and alternative music (what is all that called nowadays?)
... you call all motorcycle cops "Ponch"
... you played with Cabbage Patch Kids, Smurfs, Transformers, My Little Pony, Muppet Babies, Care Bears, Mr. Potato Head, and Gem and The Misfits
... you collected Garbage Pail Kids (Nose Drip Skip, Acne Andy, Stu Spew, Toe Jam Sam, Urine Nate, Snotty Scotty)
... Look up... wayyyyy up! You watched The Friendly Giant with his pals Rusty the Rooster and Jerome the Giraffe. He always played the recorder flute every show. He would be in this castle and he would reach down and arrange tiny furniture for his guests. "And for those who like to rock, a little rocking chair by the fireplace..."
... one of your favorite TV moments was when Skippy got his head stuck in the banister.
... you wore parachute pants and Hypercolor shirts (which changed color always around the armpits! Yuck!)
... you shopped at Boppers, Woolco, Cotton Joe, Boco, and Sears catalogue
... you played with Parachute Action Man, Castle Grey Skull, and the Aerobie
... you remember where you were when the Challenger accident happened
... Ghostbusters, Cannonball Run, Back to the Future, Porky's, Teen Wolf, and Gremlins were some of your favourite movies
... you drank CRUSH Cream Soda out of a glass bottle
...you remember Kim Cattrell in Mannequin and Police Academy, not Sex in the City
... you remember this line "Nobody puts baby in the corner"
... you played Hungry Hungry Hippo, Mouse Trap, Operation, Fireball Island, Sorry, Connect 4, Battle Ship, Candy Land, UNO, Guess Who?, and (maybe) Dungeons & Dragons
... you recognize Doogie Howser M.D., Rick Astley, Moonlighting, California Raisins, Loverboy, Captain Power, Alex Keaton, Sweet Valley High, Slippery When Wet, The Huxtables, "Go-Go Gadget...", Night Court, Wham!, Max Headroom, Hawaii Five-o, JOLT pop, and "I Think We're Alone Now"
... you know that girls just wanna have fun-un
... you're starting to believe that maybe 30 isn't so old after all, and it's those people over 40 you have to look out for
... and you've realised that life really is like one of those "Choose Your Own Adventure" books

The 80's rocked, man! We are so lucky to have memories of the 80s rather than trying to remake them...! But this event should be totally bitchin'... rock on!

Wow ... the Lost Boys. I had a major crush on Jamie Gertz back then. Whatever happened to that guy who played the vampire? I think his name was Kiefer something...
