Wintermitts (avec Lise Monique) Tonight at The Anza Club

I was never very good at French in highschool, but local bilingual band Wintermitts (avec Lise Monique) teaches me all the French I need to know. Tonight, Wintermitts will be joined by The Ludvico Treatment, The Stalls, Jump + Dash, and Drer in a benefit concert at The Anza Club for the Buddha Home Academy in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Named after fellow Canadian Julie Doiron's song "Wintermitts," the band has brought their whimsical accordion and xylophone-infused sounds to audiences in both Vancouver and Seattle. They remain independent and are knows for their creative self-promotion and art. Perhaps their most well-know song, "Que Toi" transports listeners into a Parisian cafe straight out of a scene in Amelie. However, songs like "This City" and "Just Shy of Winter", which feature light acoustic guitars and a melodica have much more of a Westcoast feel. With influences from Edith Piaf and Mice Parade, the sound of Wintermitts is nostalgic, playful, unfinished and as the band puts it, "like dirty french words and polka!"
Tonight you can experience a little taste of Paris amidst a lineup of local bands and help out a worthy cause as well. French class begins at 8pm, beginners welcome.
