20070824_Events This Week_DjHeather.jpgY'all are planning to max out the last few days of summer? If so, here's how:

25 Aug 2007, 4:00 @ Beat Street (439 W. Hastings St.)
DJ HEATHER Instore DJ Set @ Beatstreet Records

DJ Heather drops by Beatstreet for a free instore dj performance on August 25th at 4pm. We've got tonnes of free give aways from OM Records as Heather takes Beatstreet all the way live before she gets things bumpin' with Nordic Trax at The Red Room. Beatstreet has tickets for DJ Heather on sale for $27. We are cash only for tickets and they are going fast...Don't Sleep!

25 Aug 2007, 21:00 @ Pat's Pub (403 E. Hastings St.)
GREASE n GRIND WEEKENDER!! with Zombie Ghost Train, The Fiends, Surf Messiahs

This a show featuring a few groups of misguided gravediggers with nothing better to do but start a funeral parlour combo for the un-dead. Dubbed by others as a sonic junkyard, blending psycho-billy, garage punk, Egyptian folk tunes and voodoo rhythms, along with fab guitar and sore throats, they should stand out on the Vancouver landscape for the evening. Attracting music that sounds original and exciting, they should once again break-down genres for a night that combines monster movies in a live music act, with a penchant for theatrical makeup fresh from the morgue.

28 Aug, 2007, 21:00 @ The Cellar (1006 Granville St. )
GEN-X, A New 90's Nite

This nite presents a flock of 90s hits, with favorities from Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Blind Melon, Rem, Beck, Smashing Pumpkins, Cake, and Sloan, am ong others. I dig that a bunch of these were Canadian. I also like that this is one of Vancouver's only 90's nites, and nobody seems to complain about it.

28 Aug, 2007, 21:00 @ The Plaza Club (881 Granville St.)
CANADIAN NATIONAL DOWNHILL CYCLING FOUNDATION FUNDRAISER, Feat. YUCA - live in concert

YUCA After practicing their craft for years in the many clubs of Vancouver, YUCA shot to the top of the rock scene in 2004 with their demo album, The Reluctant Cowboy. The band's latest album, to be released in 2007, juxtaposes Matt Borck's melodramatic anthems with stadium-ready riffs to churn out a fine collection of rock songs in their purest form.

29 Aug 2007, 20:00 @ Pat's Pub (403 E. Hastings St.)
LIGHTNING DUST, The Cave Singers

Committing themselves to a more simplistic approach with Lightning Dust, Webber and Wells also decided to escape the comforts of their familiar instruments and writing styles. On their self-titled debut, minimal and spacious arrangements and a moody, theatrical vocal-style aptly expose the demons, creating songs that creep into your bones with a haunting chill.

30 Aug 2007, 21:00 @ The Media Club (695 Cambie St.)
WASSABI COLLECTIVE with guests Dubtruck 8pm, $12/$10adv

WASSABI COLLECTIVE, NELSON, BC. Wassabi Collective is critically acclaimed as one of Canada's best live independent bands. They enthusiastically fuse everything from roots reggae, funk, rock, jazz, drum and bass, trance, hip hop, blues, and everything in between. No stranger to touring Wassabi has performed alongside Randy Bachman, Hot Hot Heat, Bedouin Soundclash, Garaj Mahal, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Bassnectar, Femi Kuti, Ganga Giri and K-OS

31 Aug 2007, 21:00 @ Pat's Pub (403 E. Hastings St.)
STOLEN BICYCLE GANG, w/ The Flaneurs, and The Flashbacks

Vancouver's own Stolen Bicycle Gang is featuring this little evening! They are founded on ten absurdities and a couple of propositions: 1.) You will love our music 2.) You will love our music soooo much that it will hurrrt! 3.) You will hate us for that. 4.) We transform nouns into verbs, adjectives into pronouns, water into wine etc... 5.) We are not bound by the moon's gravitational pull. 6.) We are high in fiber, contain no trans fats and are organic and genetically modified.7.) This is not a joke. 8.) We are the final solution 9.) We share many physical and emotional traits to Pirates 10.) We feast on the improvisational, devour the organic and paint by numbers. They simply ask that you Love them and try not to Hate them. ;)

1 Sep 2007, 21:00 @ The Media Club (695 Cambie St.)
THOR w/ Into The Noise, and The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets

THOR is an enduring icon of glam rock/metal and one of the true originators of rock theatre. His enviable career got off the ground with an appearance on the Merv Griffin Show and he's maintained a steady pace ever since, selling hundreds of thousands of records. Starting out in Vancouver, THOR first made waves in the bodybuilding world, becoming Mr. Canada and Mr. USA, always using heavy music as an intensive training tool.

Got any more you want us to post? Let me know!
