Live Music | Au Revoir Simone Will Make the Boys Giddy @ The Media Club
"Sad Song" by Au Revoir Simone
Brooklyn-based indie-electro-dream-pop trio Au Revoir Simone bring their keyboards and drum machine to the Media Club (695 Cambie Street) this Wednesday, August 22. Since guys seem to be the only ones I've actually heard make mention of this band, I'm thinking it'll be one of those steamy shows full of indie boys in the front row with mouths slightly agape. And that's okay. At least they're not the ever-annoying Pipettes -- please don't get me started.
ARS's moniker comes from a line in Peewee's Big Adventure, notably chosen to reflect their "silly side", which I don't really detect in their music; the closest I hear is a childlike whimsicality mixed with Brooklyn coolness. I suppose, though, that their branding reflects a bit of the Peewee nature, what with their cutesy outfits and the playful colours in this video here. Furthermore, the cooking bit at the beginning of this clip reminds me of that episode of Peewee's Playhouse where I learned how to make French toast on my own. As to how "silly" they'll actually get in their live show, we'll just have to see.
Anyway, those of you into cute and silly indie boys should head to the venue early -- sweet all-boy band Oh No! Oh My! opens:
