20070924_richards.jpgRumours of Richard's on Richards shutting down permanently have been floating around for a while now and Vancouver's live-music lovers have been dreading the day when its date with the wrecking ball is officially announced. Thankfully, that won't be for a couple years as Quinn Omori over at From Blown Speakers recently revealed:

"...the owner of Richard's has been able to renew the lease on Dick's for 2-3 years. Apparently this means that some more upgrades are coming as well."

I can't imagine live music in this city without Richards. It is one of the few small venues in the city with great sound and generous sightlines from nearly every spot in the room. Local bands sing its praises in the Straight's recent "Best Of" issue, where it also took 2nd overall for "Best Live-Music Venue".

For those of you with fond memories of your favourite performers rocking out in front of that classic brick wall, this is welcome news indeed.
