'Tis the season for making lists and checking them twice. In my case, I checked more times than I care to mention. Selecting the tracks for this year's "Nice" list wasn't simply a matter of grabbing the songs with the highest play counts in my iTunes, otherwise just five or six artists would dominate. I had to be a bit more evenhanded. There were just a few standout albums in 2007, and they were albums that overflow with many of the year's most memorable tracks.

30. Hot Springs - Bacteria

29. Blonde Redhead - 23

28. The Hood Internet - Absorb the Lip Gloss (Lil Mama vs. Marnie Stern)

27. Courtney Tidwell - Eyes Are At The Billions

26. Hot Chip - My Piano

25. Feist - Sea Lion (Chromeo Remix)

24. Menomena - Muscle n' Flo

23. Caribou - Melody Day

22. Deerhunter - Like New

21. Radiohead - Bodysnatchers

20. Liars - Plaster Casts of Everything

19. The Besnard Lakes - Devastation

18. Battles - Atlas

17. The National - Mistaken for Strangers

16. M.I.A. - Bird Flu

15. !!! - All My Heroes Are Weirdos

14. The Willowz - Evil Son

13. Kanye West - Can't Tell me Nothing

12. Beirut - Elephant Gun

11. Justice - D.A.N.C.E.

10. Andrew Bird - Spare-Ohs

9. The National - Fake Empire

8. Feist - I Feel It All

7. LCD Soundsystem - All Of My Friends

6. Arcade Fire - Black Wave/Bad Vibrations

5. Deerhunter - Cryptograms

4. M.I.A. - Paper Planes

3. Les Savy Fav - The Equestrian

2. Radiohead - Reckoner

1. LCD Soundsystem - Someone Great

Good list. Definitely got me on Arcade Fire's Black wave/bad vibrations, listen to it a lot.
To add to your list, I would go with:
Matthew Good--Black Helicopter
Talib Kweli--Give 'em Hell

"Kool Aid River" by Secret Mommy
"Indestructible Life!" by Old Time Relijun
"2080" by Yeasayer

How about something off of the new Weakerthans record?

My comment didn't get approved, so I'm going to try again.

Isn't this a LOCAL blog? Isn't this blog mainly about VANCOUVER?

Where are the local bands?!?!??!!?

Bands that released records or singles in 2007:

The Evaporators, Shapes and Sizes, The Doers, Greenbelt Collective, OKVancouverOK, The Winks, Bison, Pride Tiger, Black Mountain, Octoberman, Mohawk Lodge, Collapsing Opposites, Hot Loins, Mutators, Shearing Pinx, New Pornographers, Swan Lake, .....i had a way longer list, but you deleted it.

Sigh, I love Vancouver and sure wish you did too.

i am slightly obsessed with "someone great". good top pick; it's been popped on to a few of my end-of-year mixes so far!

also, am i the only person on the planet who can't get into blonde redhead? i'll check that song out, and i may be a convert.
