Five Minutes with Becky from You Say Party! We Say Die!

20080128_becky.jpgBecky Ninkovic is a very cool mixture of sweetly shy off stage and sexy dynamo on stage. I was lucky enough to take a few minutes of her time before she took the stage last Thursday night at the Plaza.

What's your favourite thing about Vancouver?

I think the fact that the ocean and the mountains are so available. You usually get one or another or none. I tend to lose direction a lot and being able to look up and see where the mountains are I always have this grand compass available to me.

Are there some local bands you really enjoy?

Taxes are a really incredible band from Vancouver, and Fake Shark Real Zombie, Black Mountain...the Organ was a really amazing band that I was sad to see end. Mother Mother is a band we've played with and they're incredible, and we just played with Twin Crystals last weekend and they're super cool. I could go on and on.

Do you have some Vancouver haunts you like to hang out in?

I love Prado on Commercial Drive. I love how it's a blank canvas, all white walls and high ceilings and wood beams. Foundation's always great. There are a lot of places around the Main and Broadway area.

Are you off for a little while now?

We just finished two years of non-stop touring and we're pretty tired and just in need of a break. It's also time for us to start writing again, and we just want to be as true to ourselves as possible. The fact is we need to rest and recover from all that activity and we have a lot of creativity that we want to honor. If any good opportunities come our way, I'm sure we won't pass them up, but for now we'll lay low and stay home.
