Vancouver Music News: Becky Ninkovic to Sing for Hockey Night in Canada
Becky Ninkovic, lead singer of Vancouver's You Say Party! We Say Die!, is scheduled to sing the national anthems at the Canucks vs. Red Wings game February 23rd. Check out Andrea's recent interview with Becky.
In this week's Concert BReak, I briefly mention South by Southwest—a Texas music fest that is recognized to be a big deal in the worldwide music community. SXSW 2008 happens to have 99 Canadians on the roster.
Here are the eleven Vancouver bands that will be playing at the festival:
Bella, Black Mountain, The Choir Practice, Destroyer, Jeremy Fisher, Dan Mangan, Mariana's Trench, No Kids, The Pack A.D., Pride Tiger and Twin Crystals.
More music news (as well as another music video) after the jump.
Speaking of Destroyer, Dan Bejar is in another project. Hello Blue Roses is a duo that includes Bejar and love interest Sydney Vermont. Vermont writes the majority of Hello Blue Roses' work while Bejar is responsible for arranging them. Being a visual artist, Vermont provided the cover art for HBR's debut album The Portrait Is Finished And I Have Failed to Capture Your Beauty.
Juno nominee Shad has joined the ranks of Vancouver's hip-hop musicians. He just moved to Kerrisdale from London, Ontario. I love it when musical brain drain flows in the right direction!
