Citizen Cope

Hello out there! This has been a super busy week. I started a new job and things are going well, but Concert BReak got a little delayed—sorry! If there are any errors, you have something to add, you love a band, you hate a band, or just have something to share, use the comments section!

Thursday, Mar 13
Check the last Concert BReak for today's shows.

Friday, Mar 14
Wintermitts @ Backstage Lounge: Bilingualism and glockenspiels. Fun, fun, fun.
The Green Hour @ The Biltmore Cabaret: You can see yesterday's rock has influenced this local phsyc-pop group. They will be joined by The Monitors and Dead Ghosts.
The Top Drawers @ The Bourbon: The Top Drawers turn 1. They'll bring in their blues-rock with the help of The Rights and Danny Echo.
Spirit of the West @ Commodore (Day One): Vancouver-bred Celtic folk group will be joined by Ashley Macisaac.
Tenant @ Hoko Karaoke Bar: Local screamoo. Also playing is I,Emperor.

Saturday, Mar 15
Spirit of the West @ Commodore (Day Two, Sold Out): See above.
The Burning Hell @ Cafe deux Soleils: Led by the ukulele-toting Mathias Kom, The Burning Hell is pretty funny while still remaining musical. The show will also feature The Wind Whistles and a screening of short indie film "Chronic" by Brian Mitolo.

Threat from Outer Space - Live

Monday, Mar 17
Saul Williams @ Plaza Club: This guy is sorta nutty (—his website is NiggyTardust.com). His tripped out rap is infused with rock and sometimes latin beats. Also playing: Threat From Outer Space—a local hip-hop and funk quintet complete with an awesome jazz horn section. TFOS will be playing tunes from their newly released album, Bleeding the Dying Elephant (check out their lead singers interview with CBCradio3).

Wednesday, Mar 19
Hawksley Workman @ St. Andrew s–Wesley Church (Sold Out): Remember the guy who wrote I'm Jealous of Your Cigarette? He has other stuff too, some folky and some more ska-infused.
Beach House @ The Media Club (Sold Out): These indie-dream poppers are often compared with Nico and Mazzy Star (wiki). With The Papercuts.

Thursday, Mar 20
Citizen Cope @ Commodore Ballroom (Sold Out): I fell in love with this guy when I heard his song "Let the Drummer Kick". It's great and his other stuff is good too! Check out his myspace and tell me if I'm crazy.
Jill Barber & Matt Barber @ The Media Club: I've been listening to these two more and more lately. They make that Canadian indie-folk can definitley hit the spot at times. I wonder if there's a lot of sibling rivalry....
Paul Potts @ The Centre In Vancouver for Performing Arts: So, does anyone follow Britain's Got Talent (with Simon Cowell)? No? Well, this impressive tenor was the first winner of the show. He used to sell cell phones.
The Sunnyboy Trio @ Lime(All Ages): I've been waiting for this guys to have a show for a while. I saw them when Lime was Rime, and had a really good time (a few jazz saxophone players joined them from the crowd).
