Concert BReak: March 27 - April 3
This week has been musically good to me; I had the chance to see two great shows in 6 days! While I could probably stare at Vancouver's bizarre weather for a few hours, I thought I'd give you a chance at a good music week by sharing another 7 days worth of great concerts!
Thursday, Mar 27
As usual, check the last Concert BReak to access tonight's shows.
Friday, Mar 28
♦ Louis XIV @ Richard's on Richards: A four-piece glam-rock posse from San Diego.
♦ Brasstronaut @ Backstage Lounge: Earnest and simple Vancouver indie. I really like how Bryan Davies trumpet works with Edo Van Breemen's vocals.
♦ Rabnett5 @ Waldorf Hotel: I heard of this Vancouver jazz group through a concert go-er at last night's Greyboy Allstars show. Their instrumentation is similar to GBA (sax, keys, guitar, bass and drums).
♦ Bob Wiseman @ UBC Sub Building: Bob is an eccentric fellow from Toronto who is pretty experimental about his indie rock.
♦ Brent Randall & His Pinecones @ Astoria Hotel (Day One): This Halifax group may change tempos and styles from song to song, but Randall's slightly psychedelic vocals are constant.
Saturday, Mar 29
♦ Bell X1 @ The Plaza Club: Ireland once housed a band called Juniper. It consisted of Damien Rice and Bell X1. The latter of which will be at The Plaza with The Submarines.
♦ Nada Surf @ Commodore Ballroom: You probably know this NY indie-rock group, or at least know the name. They've been together off-and-on for 16 years, and released their latest album Lucky in February.
♦ Broadway Calls @ The Media Club: The type of power-pop-punk you'd hear echoing in the hallways of a high school.
♦ Brent Randall & His Pinecones @ Little Mountain Studios (Day Two): See above.
♦ Starvin Hungry @ Pub 340: Alt-punk from Montreal.
♦ The Lifetime Party Launch @ School of Mix: Featuring DJ's battling it out on 4 turntables, dance competitions as well as "cheap drink specials".
Sunday, Mar 30
♦ 311 @ Queen Elizabeth Theatre: If you go to this reggae-rock show, don't call the band "three-one-one"—it's "three-eleven".
♦ Foo Fighters @ Pacific Coliseum: David Grohl and Co. will be joined by Against Me! and Hifi Handgrenades.
♦ Los Lonely Boys @ River Rock Show Theatre: I don't really love everything this trio puts out, but that song "Heaven" isn't all bad! I didn't realize their drummer's name is Ringo....
♦ Copilots @ Railway Club: Vancouver's Copilots will swim against the tide this Sunday.
♦ Christa Couture @ The Penthouse (Day One): I was talking with a friend at work today about how this strip club features singer-songwriters. This week's Penthouse feature (aside from Miss "Grace Angel") is Christa Couture, an earnest folk singer with a familiar sound.
Monday, Mar 31
♦ Jose Gonzalez @ St. Andrew's Wesley United: I highly recommend having a listen to this Swede, who sounds like the best of Crosby, Stills and Nash with a South American twist. Mia Doi Todd will play as well.
♦ Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band @ GM Place: I don't think this guys needs much introduction.
♦ Ben Rogers @ Railway Club: This country-folk storyteller draws inspiration from Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie. Oh, and I went to high school with him.
Tuesday, Apr 1
♦ The Coast @ The Media Club: This week's Canadian indie-rock content is rounded out with The Coast, who are from Toronto—not the coast (unless it's the coast of a lake).
Wednesday, Apr 2
♦ Eddie Vedder @ The Centre for Performing Arts (Day One): Lead singer of Pearl Jam plays the Centre with Liam Finn following his work on the soundtrack of Into The Wild.
♦ Way to Go Einstein @ The Media Club: Read John Lucas compare this local group to Cold Play and Sigur Ros in The Georgia Straight.
Thursday, Apr 3
♦ Chromeo @ Commodore (Sold-Out): I'm guessing that this two-steppin' duo from Montreal can put on a great show as their music is seriously addictive. They're here on the "Fancy Footwork Tour".
♦ Eddie Vedder @ The Centre for Performing Arts (Day Two): See above
♦ Christa Couture @ Biltmore Cabaret (Day Two): See above.
Alright, that's it! If you end up having (or have just had) a great music week, be sure to share in our comments section.

I'm pretty pumped to see Tele (from Winnipeg) tonight (Sunday!) at the Media Club. I saw them a couple years ago on their home stage and am looking very much forward to seeing them now that they have completed their album. They're playing with The Imports (from Toronto), Shukov, Dating Destiny & Empire Alley. 8 pm!
