The Ting Tings Swing The Commodore

The Ting Ting's - Commodore Ballroom

The Ting Ting's had an easy time riding the wave of energy that was the Commodore's dance floor on April 11. Fans sang along to every lyric, and the dancing started the moment the beat dropped in 'We Walk'. The U.K. duo Jules De Martino and Katie White may have started out at a walk, but hard hitting pop-rock beats had the audience gyrating on the dance floor until the end of their 50-minute set. Performing tracks from their debut album, 'We Started Nothing,' each song matched in intensity—save for 'Traffic Light', which passed as a slow song only when compared to the others.

I noticed that the duo put a lot of emphasis on making their show a visual spectacle—complete with great lighting and colorful wardrobe. White had no trouble holding the crowd's focus with her bright blue tights, hearty bangs on The Ting Ting bass drum and signature Brit vocals.

Near the end of the performance White quietly mentioned a supporting band, which had apparently played the entire show from backstage. I found this a bit strange. I understand the whole 'attractive duo' brand, but if there's going to be a supporting band, let them play on-stage! (Perhaps they thought they'd have to add extra 'tings' for additional members.)

Supporting musicians aside, the band did well to end their encore with 'That's Not My Name,' a track that hit #1 in the UK. For their second time in Vancouver, The Ting Tings did not disappoint!

The Ting Tings performed a sold-out show at The Commodore on April 11, 2009. Hottub opened.

Excuse the cheesy title—I had an urge to rhyme.
