Mental Beast

I still have the Lui Passaglia-signed BC Lions football that Man Hussy kicked into the crowd at the venerable, but sadly lacking in 2009, Victory Square Block Party. Well, producer/well-liked ginger Cameron Reed has teamed up with Conor Hollor and brought us all a very nice little Christmas present. It's one of those presents that has multiple parts. Kind of like a cool jacket and in one of the pockets it has a new wallet and inside the wallet is a gift certificate to Scratch Records. Man Hussy, along with fellow local comedians Bronx Cheer, who you may remember teamed up to do those hilarious Music Waste promos (that's a cool dick), have once again (they aslo performed at Olio) served to merge the wealth of comedic talent with city's varied and thriving local music scene. Also are involved are Pony Hunters, VTSL, and the Sunday Service.
So what is Mental Beast, besides of course a fictional radio show? Well, it is a radio show about a radio show and an internet show about the making of the radio show, a compilation of all the music they played on the show about the show, and a music show to celebrate the music that they played on the radio show and the internet show about the radio show. The producers of the show about the show, sent me this, so I could show you guys. "Mental Beast is a an innovative 12-episode comedy series that spans two mediums, with two totally distinct show formats -- audio and video. It tells the story of KRML, a radio station on the verge of collapse, by bouncing between the audio episodes of a radio show called Mental Beast and video episodes depicting the station's behind-the-scenes exploits". To make things a little less confusing, they've gone ahead and titled the compilation album, The Eggnog Experience. "The Eggnog Experience is a double album compilation featuring 30 of Vancouver's best indie bands writing their own and interpreting traditional holiday songs. Many of the bands are interviewed on the Mental Beast radio show and, additionally, their compilation tracks serve as the soundtrack to the web-series".
The first episode features my bro Al Boyle of Taxes and Hard Feelings. The compilation release is on Dec 18th at The Biltmore Cabaret with Machu Picchu, Fine Mist, Makeout Videotape, World Club, Needles & Pins, Analog Bell Service, Brasstronaut, Rose Melberg and Nick Krgovich, Basketball, Tight Solid, Vancougar, and Apollo Ghosts. Holy. Fucking. Shit.
Oh and because whomever made the Mental Beast website was too lazy (jk) to link to all the participating bands, here they are:
Jody Glenham, Kellarissa, Lightning Dust, Vancougar, Adjective, Nick Krgovich (of P:ano & No Kids) and Rose Melberg, Brasstronaut, Secret Mommy, Apollo Ghosts, Fanshaw, Al Boyle of Hard Feelings, Analog Bell Service, B-Lines, Basketball, Blue Violets, Collapsing Opposites, Dandi Wind, Dylan Thomas, Fine Mist, Haunted Beard, Lust, Machu Picchu, Makeout Videotape, Needles & Pins, No Gold, Noobie Noobinson, Paul Anthony, Tight Solid, World Club, Yukon Blonde.
Oh fuck did I mention that all the proceeds go to the foodbank?
