Vancouver Music News: Fan Death's New Band Members & EP, You Say Party! We Say Die! Tour Dates, Bend Sinister moving to Toronto
In this edition: Fan Death's two new band members and future EP, You Say Party! We Say Die! add Canadian tour dates and release "Glory" video, and Bend Sinister temporarily moving to Toronto. Plus: "Cannibal" video by Fan Death and live cover video of "These Eyes" by Bend Sinister.<
Live Line-up of Fan Death Goes From Three to Five
Vancouver-based band, Fan Death, has recently gone from a duo/trio to a five-piece band, adding a violinist and a drummer. The band originally started with Dandilion Wind Opaine and Marta Jaciubek-McKeever performing alongside Szam Findlay, who mostly produces and performs.
Last Sunday, I saw the five-piece band for the first time live at the Astoria (this was a last minute show). I must admit, I was really digging the five member set-up, especially the live violinist. I saw Fan Death two other times when they were just two/three members. Both of those times were good but this last one at the Astoria was the best I've seen and heard so far. If you ever get a chance to see this band live, I suggest you do. Dandilion Wind Opaine (the lead singer) has a remarkable amount of energy that will rub off on you and make you dance like a maniac.
Fan Death just released their EP, A Coin For The Well, in the UK under the label, Pharmacy Recordings Company. I was going crazy trying to figure out when the EP will be released in North America. After some research, I finally found it! It's scheduled to be out February 23rd under Last Gang Records. And the full-length LP, Womb of Dreams, is expected to be released in May.
Here's Fan Death's latest video, "Cannibal."
You Say Party! We Say Die! Add New Tour Dates and Release New Video
You Say Party! We Say Die! released their fourth album, XXXX, last September and ever since then, they've been all over the covers of different publications in Vancouver.
The band just added some Canadian dates to their North American tour, which is starting in March. On April 16th, they will be playing an all ages show in Vancouver at the Rickshaw Theatre. All those fans under 19 should be happy because all ages shows are hard to come by in Vancouver. For those of age who like to wet their whistle, not to worry. There's still a bar in the Rickshaw, you just need ID (obviously).
You Say Party! We Say Die! has a new video for their song "Glory." The video takes place in a room lit by four giant "X"s. Becky Ninkovic (the lead vocalist) is pretty mesmerizing in this one.
Bend Sinister Temporarily Moving to Toronto
After winning $50,000 from the Peak Performance Project, the members of Bend Sinister have decided to quit their day jobs, pack everything up and move to Toronto. The band believes that moving from Vancouver to Toronto will allow them to focus on their music a little more and gain their fan base on the east side. They are planning on touring Ontario and Quebec, and making a quick stop in New York as well.
Before they head to Toronto, the band will finish recording three songs with Howard Redekopp, who has recorded with: Tegan and Sara, The New Pornographers, Mother Mother and You Say Party! We Say Die! (their previously mentioned album, XXXX). Bend Sinister's songs will be released in due time.
For now, here is Bend Sinister performing a cover of the Guess Who's "These Eyes" at Blue Wave Productions. Very cool.
