Police Incident at Waterfront Station

Plain Clothed Vancouver PoliceI had some excitement on the commute home today. Still half asleep from my skytrain ride, I ambled out of Waterfront Station and noticed a pair of harassed-looking policemen...no big deal, this is downtown. I started to wake up as I headed to my bus stop and noticed an undercover unmarked cop car and an ambulance driving like crazy through 5:30 traffic.

After pulling large firearms from the trunk of their car, the pair of undercover plain clothed RCMP officers ran into the building. This further piqued my attention. Once armed, the two cops did a reconnaissance of the building, then went to check out the skytrain. I learned from a bystander that at least one officer had scouted the seabus.

Anticlimactically, the party ended as abruptly as it started when the five officers involved congregated in the main waiting area of the Station (near Starbucks). They made some small-talk, shrugged their shoulders and went their separate ways.

I snapped this shot of one of the undercovers plain clothed officers as he replaced his weapon into his trunk. I have a few others but decided not to post them; if I was in his position, I wouldn't appreciate having pictures of my day at work online.

I'm still really interested to know what it was that they were looking for (maybe you know?).

I'd also like to know if you have witnessed any police incidents? Share by writing in our comments section (after the jump).

i was walking home down burrard, around the same time and saw the undercover car turn on its lights at davie and burrard and speed through the intersection, nearly T-boning a mini van!

It was pretty crazy how he drove into the intersection at waterfront, too. I managed to take a look at the car and noticed at least one impact mark. I wonder if they were wearing their vests under those hoodies and lumberjack shirts....

Still no leads on what they were looking for?

'have asleep' ? 'peaked my attention' ? BR should know they can't hire grade schoolers just because they can't pay the big kids.

Thanks for the comment Beckett. I wrote this post in a very short amount of time on my way out the door. I'm sorry for the confusion--it did need a look-over. I do have to admit that it took me a while to figure out that 'peaked my attention' should have been 'piqued my attention'.

Grade school, here I come!

What is the point of this article? You saw some cops? Am I missing something?

I dont know about you, but I rarely see plain clothed officers running around with shotguns in Waterfront Station.
I was hoping someone could fill us in on what the cops were after—that's all.

Gah, I get this all the time in my Vancouver community blog/forum "I saw cops at this place, at this time, anybody know what they were doing?"

If you really care that much, rather than make a pointless post here (who really cares) go to the VPD website - each day they brief for the press all of the notable police incidents of the day before. They then post this information online You can almost ALWAYS find out what was going on by checking this out.

I agree with bumbum, I dont' get the point of posting this in BR. Maybe discover vancouver would be a more appropriate place?

RE: Jeannette and bumbum
I find it kind of ironic that not only did you take the time to read this 'pointless post' but then you proceeded to put more of your valued time and effort to respond to it...hmmm...I'm not sure who is wasting whose time...

Thanks for the comment Jeannette. I made the post because I found it interesting, and I know that bystanders also find it interesting. I was also the only one on scene with my camera.
I did briefly browse the VPD website, but to no avail. Care to link us?

Methinks this was interesting to many & thus all the comments. Regarding why not to to the RCMP website for info...news can originate from one source & become available in thousands of media formats, papers & mags. Why all the bile???
