Morning Brew: April 22
Jon here, filling in for Sean while he's off in Toronto. While I can't promise the man's super-vampiric ability to whip out all the news you need before even the first Yaletown dogs start yapping... I will do my best to offer a rundown of some interesting local headlines each day.
Happy Earth Day. Where would you place yourself in the rankings of the world's greenest person?
Speaking of selfish environmentalism, police have caught the alleged car-keyer... and they didn't taze him!/? I say watch out for a regular cavalcade of car-keying copycats... drunk UBC students doin' what they can for the environment, man. Update: apparently it's all ICBC's fault.
Depending on your viewpoint, British Columbians are famous/infamous for our 'laid back attitude'/weed-induced laziness. Either way... reducing our CO2 emissions might be something we best not procrastinate on. What happened to the Terminator who favored actions over words? I hope his plan isn't time travel...
Learn about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch; an ever-expanding, floating mass of plastic now twice the size of the US... and stop laughing at your neighbor who brings his own bag to Capers.
Suburbs Cause 'Food Deserts' in Cities. All I know is that I've been forced to bite the Choices bullet far too many times.
I've heard 420 called all kinds of things, but disturbing?
Local man wins $15 million on the Super 7... promptly vows to quit his job. I hope he saves enough for Olympic hockey tickets...
Adam at Only has a nice appreciation of Godard's 'La Chinoise' up, which is playing all week at the Pacific Cinematheque
I'm currently recovering from the Hot Chip show at the Commodore last night, and despite the crowd not really being my style (or maybe I was just way too sober...), the NME poster-boys put on a surprisingly good performance. Definitely one of the weirder looking bands to garner such a wide, mainstream following, at least.
So I'll probably be in for game 7 of the Flames/Sharks series tonight. I don't watch a lot of hockey... but it doesn't get much better than Jarome Iginla; and you might as well cheer for Western Canadian hockey fans' last chance at legitimated nights of ass-planted drinking over the next month or so. Bring on the Telus ads.

Re: 420 'Disturbing'
She also says she'll be asking the Police Department why it didn't have a visible presence at the event
I was there. Was she? The police had a pretty visable presence, they shut down the roads around the gallery, there were many cop cars and a few paddy wagons. I mean, obviously their presence wasn't in the middle of things, it was body to body pot smokers and besides, they wouldn've gotten high from 2nd hand smoke...
