082708_mb.jpgB.C. judge sets goal of crime-free Downtown Eastside. 'Community court system will integrate health, social services; aims to clean up area by 2010 Olympics'. Again, four pillars much?

Bad Vibrations. 'Residents living next to the BC Ferries terminal in Nanaimo say the low-frequency vibrations emitted by the company's new, supersize ferries are threatening their homes'. Why are they living next to a ferry terminal? Furthermore, why are they living in Nanaimo? Also, didn't the same thing happen with the Fast Cat ferries? Also, why are there always mirrors above the vegtables and fruits in a supermarket?

Mass Listeria: 1,100 join class action lawsuit over listeria outbreak.

Mumps outbreak spreads into Metro Vancouver. I'm a huge fan of old diseases making a comeback. Can Scarlet Fever be next? Way to go Christianity, again.

Live the subsidized lifestyle.

maybe they should direct their attention to those using establishments to sell drugs and sleep with minors.

While I agree with the Biltmore's owner Zak, I must admit that his campaign will not likely get very far. I read his message on Facebook last week and his argument was largely "those bastards" and "nobody did this to me in Calgary".

You're not in Calgary buddy. Get over yourself and learn a little bit about the culture here. It sucks but nobody here wants to hear about how Calgary is super awesome because we just don't care that much about what is over them hills. We care about rain and cold dry humour. Check the cowboy attitude at the door and maybe city counsellors will listen to you.

It's this exact attitude that accomplishes NOTHING in this city. Yah, let's just let things slide and let the powers that be handle everything. I happen to be pretty ashamed that it has taken someone from another city to bring this bureaucratic bullshit to light. This exact thing has happened to venues in this city before (Sugar Refinery anyone?), but let's just hope that people raise their voices loud enough this time for the mainstream media to pick up on this. It's really great that people are blogging about the issue but it's simply not enough. If people keep sitting back we will lose another venue in this city for damn near no reason. And I bet that you, Ryan, are one of those people that would be bitching and moaning the second The Biltmore came tumbling down. If you do agree with Zak, then lend a hand instead of criticizing. Or maybe Zak should just shut up and learn about the "culture" in this city. The culture of apathy. Keep on not keepin' on, Ryan.

I liked the Biltmore better when you could get a $3.25 pint every day at 11:30 in the morning. Now all you get is hipster scum pissing (both boys AND girls) in the scholyard and $16.00 sixers of Kokanee.

Maybe it's the clientelle?
