093008_mb2.jpgCKNW'S UNCOMFORTABLE QUESTION OF THE DAY: Do you really care about the Downtown Eastside? Oh man, on friday night I saw an ambassador of the bar star crowd, a 20 something anorexic, indo-Canadian walking down Columbia at Hastings in her high heals stop and scream at a woman to shut up because she was on her cell phone. The woman, who was clearly a native of the DTES began to stand when the girl kicked at her face, only missing when her two male friends held her back. The group crossed Hastings yelling epithets at the woman and her partner, when one of the males screamed "Why don't you go smoke some crack?", to which the obvious reply was, "I just did, and we were just about to". Go Coquitlam!

Comment: "A homosexual being assaulted is no more offensive than anyone else being assaulted" -Ireland Forever, Coquitlam. Oh, so they were attacked because they just happened to be human beings? When they said, "Die faggot " what they really meant to say "I hate you for no particular reason". Go Coquitlam.

Too bad the US economy doesn't have the Winter Olympics coming up, because that would solve all of their problems. For example, our real estate values are just going to keep rising, and certainly one in five jobs created under the banner of job creation needs to be addressed too. Don't listen to that crazy Sean Orr guy. Or Rafe Mair. Or logic.

Will the US market meltdown burn Canada's election? I don't know, I'll try to find some examples and bring 'em to ya.

Time to celebrate? Remember the last thing you secretly cheered in the back of your head Kevin? That didn't go so well.

Why this election matters

COPE won't run Tim Louis for council.

"Let's not be like Europe," he said with a shrug. "Let's be like Vancouver."

The Vancouver Sun knows the internets.

Apparently if you lock up everyone from Surrey, there will be no more gay bashing and hate crimes - according to the West End BIA.

I am moving to Vancouver from London next month I have a place arranged on 350 East 2nd Avenue is this counted as one of the bad areas or is this too far south?

Don't worry Tom. That area's pretty good. It'll be better than London, anyway.

WTF? Morning brew doesn't mention the Mayor's debate at all?
