080922b.jpgAfter delay upon delay and then a round of recounts, 4,600 voters have settled on Vision's slate of council candidates, and the Eby/Dhaliwal split may be a sign of the party's 'ethnic/non-ethnic-liberal divide'.

Transit Cops are cracking down on bear spray. Fuck protecting my ipod, how am I supposed to defend myself against all those bears? Or those guys at the protein store? Or Neil Diamond fans? And at what point do these things officially become sprayable 'wildlife'?

Where's the Square: Design Competition, imagining a public square for Vancouver. Do we really need more places for people to smoke pot in public? The launch event is happening on Tuesday at 7:00 the VPL. And I'm just kidding, we could always use more public space... just leave your weed, sushi, cellphones, toy dogs and homelessness at home.

deathby1000coldcuts: the game, and the controversy. Since when is a shitty flash game a legitimate publicity technique? Whos working on "Super Clean DTES Fun 2010?" It'd be great: one player can walk around 'spiriting' away the mentally ill as Sumi (laser beam eyes, or something) while the other goes Rampage on DTES drug hotels as Quatchi. I think we shot that sea bear thing. But seriously, look at this animation and tell me you can't hear "bye, bye homeless" in that creepy chipmunk voice.

More murders in metro Van.

Remember the Natural Law Party? World peace through Yogic Flying? I guess it doesn't sound that absurd, considering...

Some angry BCers throw their pennies on the rails of Olympic exploitation - "The Spirit Train is an Olympic propaganda machine spreading the Olympic ideals of capitalist colonialism across Turtle Island." Cmon' ya party poopers, have some ecomagination.

The Greens stand firm on legalizing marijuana, while another local NDP candidate gets burnt out. So what happened, Jack?

In other federal news, the NDP are vowing to cut down on crime while Harper turns his focus on to arctic sovereignty. Way to steal ideas from the Russians. Now WWIII sparked by Harper over arctic ownership is one interesting doomsday scenario I hadn't considered.

An interview with one of our city's most respected journalists (psych, it's not Sean Orr).

Tip of the needless research iceberg? Poor teenage girls likely to have sex earlier: Study. I think I had some friends in high school who performed that study...

Here's something more worth our time: is it Time to Reset the School Clock? Yes it is. Check out more in the wonderful Teaching that Inspires series over at the Tyee.

Geekier stuff: An article in the upcoming issues of Science on How to Save Fish calls for 'fish shares' to save the industry from collapsing. And The Future of Photography: pared down pixels & goodbye to glare.

Great one from this week's New Yorker, Freeing the Elephants: the controversial literature of Babar the frenchified elephant.

If this thing actually works, I'm totally giving the VIA guys my share of the VoterMedia money to transport me to 1985. Though McFly has to sit in the back from now on...

P.S. My sincerest apologies for bringing those mascots back to your attention.
