Morning Brew: The Plan
Poorest to Pay for Campbell Plan? Isn't that exactly Campbell's plan in the first place? No. but. seriously.
James' plan. Meh. C+
Gregor's Plan. Where's da money?
Rotberg's Plan: We're so inward-looking here, and we're so narcissistic about how wonderful we are -the best place on Earth- that we're reluctant to look into Ontario, or anywhere east of the Rockies or anywhere south of the border, where they have dozens of affordable-housing inducement programs that are working wonderfully"
Bedbug solution touted. Solution= actually doing something about it.
Vancity Buzz offer some advice on the financial crisis: "This cycles has just begun and panic has set in, it will be over when people stop talking it". Phew!
Endowment fund bolstering 'struggling' Olympic Village: Ladner. I love his spokesperson's response. He's all like, "isn't that public knowledge"? Isn't that what a slush fund is for?

Apparently a picture IS worth a thousand words..
Those mediocre snapshots of the Insite really tell the story.
Tents erected on a major arterial road during rush hour. All of Hastings street essentially shut down. Thousands of commuters disrupted. Dozens of VPD officers on paid crowd control duty. A rag-tag turnout of the usual suspects: poverty activists and Hastings burnouts - who already support InSite regardless of the free burgers, stilt walkers and concert.
And the last frame - most telling of all, where an actual InSite user is turned away..
Why? Because Mark Townsend chooses to disdainfully thumb his nose at everyone and anyone in his single-minded Machiavellian self interest. This cheezy publicity stunt could have been held elsewhere at any one of the dozens of PHS owned buildings in a two block radius. The police offered a more suitable location barely round the corner.
If we as tax-payers are going to continue to support Insite, and attempt to better the situation in the DTES. I think we need seriously need to re-consider who we are letting run the show. The PHS is clearly not part of the soliution.
Your Vancity Buzz quote made me lose some coffee. You owe me a new shirt, for chrissakes.
Thank God we have such an intelligent, well spoken, diverse person in Sean Orr in our fair city.
There is absolutely, I mean absolutely, no one better suited in this city to make sandwiches. Bar none.

Yeah. How dare they? How dare they try and bring a Juno award winning band to the DTES?

Mark Townsend spoke out against W2 today in council on camera saying a variety of things about the unimportance of art in society and the negligiable impact it has on people's lives.
I'm sure the blogosphere will be awash real soon now, but for a pro-arts person, Mark Townsend isn't interested in that, he seems mostly interested in increasing the size of his opperating budget. Why wouldn't W2 be able to run the social enterprise cafe as they always planned in their documents submitted to city hall.
