Morning Brew: Jokes!

Posted by Sean / December 18, 2009

Olympic torch delayed by Toronto protesters. It is not known if Morning Brew's counter part on BlogTo participated in the action. Or I could go ahead and take an educated guess.

Canucks fans charged with assaulting security guard. That's totally an acceptable reason to punch a chick bro, they kicked you out of the game! No but seriously why is this acceptable but interrupting a torch relay is met with scorn and contempt? Just imagine how rad it's going to be now that we got MMA! This is me, tapping out.

Vancouver, Be on the Look Out For a Giant T. Hey how about instead of giant, homegenizing transit markers that tell us when the last train runs how about just make the trains run until after the bars close like a regular grown-up city. After all, we're finally big enough for turnstiles.

Eroding Pensions, Political Flashpoints. Unfortunately the BC government let it all ride on Crocs. Sorry. Old people ruin everything. I thought you knew.

They're too busy looking up pictures of model boats. This is what democracy looks like.

This is the ugliest thing I've ever seen. Yes, but have you seen the rest of Vancouver's public art? A ha! See?

Perhaps someone could shed some light on the matter.

Making an "East Vanhattan" cocktail with Ed Hardy Bitters. Not only funny, but could also be responsible for a suitable replacement for the word douchebag, as in, "Let's peace this scene, this party is full of massengills".

Best restaurants in Vancouver, according to Zagat. Man Bob Zagat has really stepped up his game since America's Funniest Home Videos

How much of what you give will end up as garbage? Or perhaps a more pertinent question may be, how much of what you give is garbage.

Holy shit this episode of Mental Beast is hilarious. See you at the Biltmore tonight for the finale! There is a rumour that everyone is getting a snowglobe. No there isn't, I just made that up.

worst. segue. ever.

Who says drunken louts beating on a female security guard is even remotely acceptable? In fact - your's s is the first suggestion I've heard to that effect.
Besides these are hockey goons .. Aggressive confrontations with security guards are only acceptable if they're Downtown Ambassadors and you're a self-righteous blogger.

I fail to see the connection between the hockey loogan incident and a lack of overwhelming support for those who would disrupt the games-that-we-are-stuck-with-anyway-so-better-hope-they-go-well-or-we'll-be-stuck-with-an-even-bigger-taxpayer-bill-slash-hangover

I suppose its only acceptable in its lack of widespread condemnation, namely because this attitude is quite common in sports and because they were drunk. Had they been holding signs at an Olympic hockey game or something, were escorted out, and violence ensued, message boards would be swamped with scorn. As far as my incident, the aggression was exhibited by the tax-payer funded Downtown Ambassador himself. And I never suggested it was acceptable, in fact, since at the time the Ambassadors were the subject of a complaint filed to a human rights complaint, I suggested the opposite.

gotta agree with jerry on this one sean.

There are plenty of people who are all for protesting the torch relay, however you will be hard pressed to find people in support of drunkenly hitting a female security guard.

There is no connection and no reason to bring up the torch relay in that story.

Sean- I have to agree with Jerry as well. It is quite the stretch. But still not as bad as your comparison of the olympics to the nazi regime in Germany.
You need to stop this crap.....

Hmm, well I think I was reading the comments on CBC about the protesters delaying the torch, and then of course there just weren't any comments that I could find, about the security guard. To me, it is a logical comparison, in that violence in and around sports is the norm, but if you have any sort of position, be it anti-globalisation or anti-olympics, you are labeled a goon who is ruining everyone's family fun time.

Also, still yet to remember when I actually once compared the Olympics to Nazi Germany, other than linking to that Globe and Mail article outlining the fact that the torch relay was an invention of Hitler...

Your "logical comparison" defies logic. What happened to the security guard is not the norm, nor is it acceptable, and in fact, it is those people who assaulted her who are you most likely to be "labeled a goon who is ruining everyone's family fun time."
So how does this relate to the Olympics exactly...?
