Trunk Beds at the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Fest

042007_whistler.jpgI was so excited to go to the Telus festival this year, I really was. But when my accommodation in Pemberton fell through, the only two options I was faced with were to sleep in the back of my friend's SUV or pay $240 a night for a junior bachelor, the cheapest remaining hotel room that I could find for this weekend.

I had been feeling torn between all the awesome stuff going on up in Whistler and all the awesome stuff going on down in Vancouver. Then I overheard a group of 18 year old girls discussing their Whistler hot tub plans and assuring one another that they'll have no trouble getting into the bars. Yeah, Vancouver it is....

Unless you've already been since the fest began on the 13th, have friends who live in Whistler that you can stay with, or don't mind waking up in the back of a car with smeared make-up and nowhere to pee, rest assured that if you decide to cut your losses and stay in Vancity, there are plenty of cool events to keep you occupied this weekend.

The Vancouver Fashion Week kicked off on the 19th and runs until Sunday the 22nd. The big hoopla is tonight at the Chapel, see you there at 7pm. Their website is a little lacking for details, but trust that it should be fun and I think tickets will be available at the door.

Blonde Redhead plays the Commodore tonight, doors at 8. Tickets around $25. I so want to go!

The fashion-show after party is also at the Chapel, featuring DJ Robin Banks and a live performance by Certain Breeds. Will probably hang there for a bit before heading to....

Let's Get Gentrified! The Terribly Stable. April 20th, with Bend Sinister, deejay Huub Von Rhonda (Austria), cheap bar, art installed, usual mayhem.
*PS- we are not destroying the place ourselves, the bulldozers are coming after we leave. Sorry no fires.* Thanks for the heads-up Alison! xoxo

And that's just Friday y'all.

If you are bent on going to Whistler, all the power to you. There's the big Schick Fashion Exposed fashion show tonight, followed by an O'Neill after-"beach"-party. Free outdoor concert series this weekend includes Toots and the Maytals, Zaki Ibrahim, Red One, Rahzel, Robertson, Roz Bell, The Beautiful Girls, Hayley Sales, and Slackstring. Yowsers. Then you have the mountain. There's so much going on it'll make your head spin.
