People's Prom 2008

If you have fond memories of high school prom then screw you. You had your fun. The annual People's Prom is for everyone that was too smart, cynical, ugly, or awkward to enjoy that obligatory 'highlight' of adolescence. That's not to say that the squares with social skills and 90210 looks are not invited. People's Prom--one of the best parties of the year--is inclusive and community-minded. It's also queer-friendly and gender-blind. In fact, boys and girls share the same bathrooms. Just don't go at the same time as your date.
Beyond the appeal of wearing a powder blue tux or haute Value Village puffy-sleeved gown, one thing prom-goers look forward to every year is sucking face with randoms. The Spin the Bottle wheel and the Kissing Booth help would-be wall flowers get loose by eliminating the fear of small talk. Making out with everyone can be fun, as long as you're ok with the fact that everyone is being just as slutty as you. Healthy hedonism or a health violation? Just be sure to rinse with JD after each encounter and we'll play along. (ATTENTION full-time sluts! Leave your lips at home, no one is interested in playing Pass the Cold Sore.)
People's Prom is what grad night would be like if Ghost World's Enid and Rebecca were prom committee. It's a second-hand black tie ball minus the jocks and Mean Girls, so you're left with weirdos, beardos, and queerdos that know how to party, and all the creative nerds that bloomed into babes. Prom attire and a sense of humour are mandatory.
