The Sean Orr Bump: Vote Carr in Vancouver-Centre

091208_adriane_carr.jpgSo Elizabeth May has been making a fuss in the blogoshpere with her recent victory over the shadowy Canadian TV Consortium and her recent remarks that may or may not have been doctored (or at least taken out of context), in which she calls Canadians stupid. But as witnessed down south, any attention is good attention, even if you're just putting lipstick on a pig (No, I am not calling Elizabeth May a pig. She looks more like a beaver anyways).

In the interest of full disclosure, I am a Green Party member and supporter, and I ran in the last Provincial election under the Green banner. I must say however, that I was essentially just a name on a ballot, as I was the last of a full slate of candidates and had no campaign budget. But in the upcoming battle for Vancouver Centre, the Green's aren't phoning it in.

Former BC Green Party leader Adriane Carr has a real chance to become the first elected Green MP in Canada. I know its been said before, but this time she isn't the only one. Current independant MP for West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast Blair Wilson recently joined the party after the grits didn't want to be attached to a scandal that he was eventually cleared of. Also, May could sneak out a win from foreign affairs minister, Peter "Who's David Orchard" Mackay.

But in Vancouver Centre, "all four national parties, including the Greens, are running high-profile candidates with lots of depth and/or political experience. Given how competitive this contest is, someone could take the seat with as little as 30 or 35 percent of the vote". This means that simply voting against Harper via the Libs, NDP, or Greens could actually elect him, a clear case for electoral reform. But in this riding, a vote for Carr won't be a throw away vote. She is experienced and savy and I know she believes in the platform above all else. The time is now.

Carr seems pretty nifty. She was excited when I took a MySpace-style photo with her at the Green Living Show.

Well, considering she's in the number two spot according to the polls, there is a serious chance that she could win. Carr just needs to rally the troops a bit more. And the question is, how much of a chance does she have in booting off Hedy Fry...?

Hedy Fry does more for the riding then Carr could ever hope to. Carr doesn't really have a chance in the riding and voting for her will just split the enviromently friendly vote.

Blair Wilson...careful Sean, you walk a fine line siding with a character like Wilson. You might be a lot of things, but don't become a hypocrite.

I don't know guys, getting excited about a "myspace-style" photo sounds like something that qualifies a mature adult politician to hold office.....

I endorsed Carr.

I'm lucky to live in Vancouver Centre, and have 4 qualified candidates to chose from. I'm leaning toward voting for Michael Byers of the NDP.

Political hacks are suggesting this is a Liberal-NDP race. I have little faith in internal Green party polls that put Carr in second place. She's been predicted to do well before, but never placed higher then third. In fact, she has a history of disappointing election results.

I don't know, we'll just wait and see if Fry responds by Facebooking me or adding me to Twitter...

uh, you folks are dreaming if you think carr is going to do anything better than a distant forth. first, the candidate doesn't really matter for the greens. second, if the candidate did matter, adrienne carr is best known for busting into tears and wailing about a conspiracy when stv was chosen over mmp by the citizens assembly. expect fry to win here, with the outside chance of a byers upset. expect carr to come about 20,000 votes behind the winner.

If IQ's were votes, Byers would win in a landslide... unfortunately people seem to think Fry has done something in this riding to make it a better place to live. If someone knows what that is, please let us know....
