When you think of a triathlon, you might think of one of those awful gruelling enduro events. But around these parts, people are too laid back to bother with that masochist scene. My First Triathlon was created to introduce people to triathlons in the gentlest way possible.

400m swim (3 laps at Kits pool). 20 km bike ride. 5 km run. Ok fine, people put more energy into training than it would take to flip through all 68 TV channels, but MFT is beloved for its easy-going, non-competitive attitude. People waded as much as they swam. They shot the breeze with the grandma running beside them. They enjoyed the scenery. And they moseyed across that finish line just before dusk, to thunderous applause and a shiny medallion.

Ok, a bunch of people trained some and pretended they were competitive. But many people were more soft core. Older and overweight folks also did it. A SIX year old did it. Your excuses will not hold up. Gear? Everything from fancy-ass to cheap-ass. I did it on a bike I found in the alley a month previous. Some woman did it on a folding bike. Hardly anyone wore Speedos. And nobody threw up afterwards.

MFT will return next year, to the beautiful nearby location of Harrison Mills. You should consider entering. Yes, you. Do check out their friendly website for more details.
