Hello People of Vancouver! I'll be writing Person Of the Week forBeyond Robson every Wednesday. I am going to mainly focus on local skateboarders and BMXers but I will be adding in other interesting people along the way. If you know of a person that you think would be a candidate for Person Of the Week you can email me at sarah@beyondroboson.com. I hope you enjoy reading my column as I will enjoy writing it!
Terry Carson is the person of the week because he freakin' rocks. He's a crazy BMX bike rider. He loves to party, dance air hump take his clothes off and he also plays a mean air guitar. Have I got you curious? Good. Read on.
Are you single?
Yes.
How young?
Thirty
Desrcibe your personality?
I am pretty mellow, easy going. I think I have a good sense of humor (no matter how twisted it is).
Do you work?
Yes, for a BMX Company (MacNeil Bikes) / BMX Distributor (Ten Pack)/ contest series (MetroJam)
Any hobbies?
Play guitar (poorly) and I ride my BMX, oh, I also like to relax on the beach (is that a hobby?)
Favorite place to get legless (i.e. Drunk)?
The Black Dog (in Edmonton) but when I am home I drink alone, in my alley. Just kidding. I don't have (any single) place here in Vancouver. Here are a few faves though: Fairview, The Morrisey, Marine Club, Railway club. The main thing is, though, I hate line-ups. I am just too fabulous for that.
What's your poison?
When I am drinking beer, I want Grasshopper, otherwise it is Crown Royal, or rum
Craziest drinkin' binge?
Oh... I don't know if you have enough bandwidth on you site for all these, cause I can't just pick one.
Where and what do you eat when you are hungover?
When I am hung over (not often) I like cheap breakfast Skylight Diner on Commercial and Parker.
Music?
I love 80's hair metal. It is fun and sassy. But I like most guitar music, from John Lee Hooker to Cradle of Filth, (Very little Hip Hop) oh, "Emo," "Nu Meta" and "new punk" it can just go away too.
How did you get into BMX bike riding?
I always had a BMX cause it was all you could get for kids when I was young, some kids in my school were jumping and stuff just like I saw on the movie 'RAD' so I started hanging out with them and met more people who did the same so I have been BMX-ing since I was 15.
Favorite BMX Trick?
I like to air a big ramp, or just do nose wheelies
How is it done?
Airs? You just go up as high as you can, then turn around. Nose wheelies are not as easy, you sort of come out of the ramp and land on your front wheel and lean forward till it feels scary and just go on your front wheel for a bit. Then roll back in to the ramp from that position.
Best BMX crash up?
I crashed while doing some demos for the morning news when I was in Edmonton still and got knocked out, everyone was freaking , they didn't know what to do, but I finished the demo and then puked all over my bike. The news people didn't know what to think. I loved it.
Movies?
I will just give 3 faves - Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, Super Troopers, Evil Dead Trilogy (ok, so it is actually 3 movies)
What are some of the the coolest things about about Vancouver?
The beach, the whole geography, the summer (but that happens everywhere) cool places to eat.
What are the worst?
The bad drivers, spiders, humid winter (not necessarily rain, I can deal with that). Oh, I hate all the hills (when I want to ride home from the beach, after a bottle of wine).
What do you do about Vancouvers rainy days?
I play my guitar, watch a movie or try to ride my bike inside somewhere.
Last words
Stay fast and keep the rubber side down.
