Person of the Week - Rollergirl

Rollergirl is special because she is one of the few aggressive (does tricks and rides at skate parks) roller skaters in Vancouver. She custom designs her own roller-skates out of hockey skates and skateboard wheels. She also sells aggressive roller-skates and stylish street skates online. Rollergirl is joining a crew of about 40 other chicks to make the Terminal City Rollers and they are resurrecting the 70s Game/Race Roller derby. Its gonna be punk rock, hot girls, broken bones ect. You can get the just of it by watching the A&E series Rollergirls. They are starting up this spring so we'll keep you posted on the details.

Chunky.

Do you work?
Not really, I run my own online roller skate shop. It is all play!

Any hobbies?
Snowboarding, roller skating, skim boarding, sewing, and roller derby soon.

Favorite place to get legless (i.e. Drunk)?
Anywhere in public on a sunny afternoon.

What's your poison?
Good beer, wine and dark rum.

Craziest drinkin' binge?
It has been awhile. Must have been in Montreal, crawling home after the bars close at 4am in the snow.

Where and what do you eat when you are hung over?
I don't eat when I am hung over. But if I can still eat, I like breakies at the Hatch on Broadway. They have a pesto and cashew benny it's the bomb!

Music?
Across the board. Mostly older stuff like Pink Floyd, Primus, Bob Dylan, DJ Shadow, NOFX and Talvin Singh.

How did you get into Rollerskating?
I have been roller skating since I was 5, I have always loved to roll.

Favorite Trick?
Box grind.

How is it done?
It combines a plate grind with one foot and a 50-50 with the other.

Best skate crash up?
I Broke my tailbone hooking up (getting caught) on the coping (a metal bar at the top of a ramp) when I was trying to fakie (go backwards) back in to the ramp. It still hurts on rainy days.

Movies?
Anything by Miazaki, 80's ski movies, old school B horror flicks

What are some of the the coolest things about about Vancouver?
The ski hills, skate parks/bowls, Wreck Beach, Sushi Yama, Commercial drive, that stone bull with big balls on Richards.

What are the worst?
High rent. Lack of seasons, you never know what season it is. It could be spring, winter or fall and you would never know the difference. It all looks the same. Oh, and the bad drivers.

What do you do about Vancouver's rainy days?
Skate RDS, go up the mountains (snow beats rain!), drink beer and watch old movies.
