How to Have a Great Orgasm, Seminar

See the title? The Art of Loving runs events like this all the time. I see them listed in the Georgia Straight nearly every week. And I don't get it at all.

I'm all about taking action to improve your life and always recommend that people do things and take classes rather than expecting good stuff and knowledge to fall into their laps, but orgasm classes?

Seriously?

Maybe I'm a prude, I don't know. Maybe my long-lost Catholic elementary school education had left me with an unshakable tendency toward secrets and shame. This particular class purports to include everything you need to know in their guide to self-pleasure. I just don't believe it's going to help people (in this case women, as the seminar is for women only) have better orgasms.

Who goes to these things? Have any of you ever gone? And if you did go, would you admit it? It's my understanding that a lot of women have trouble making it happen, if you will, and in that case, is a seminar - essentially, education in a room full of strangers - really going to help? Is that the sort of environment that helps people relax?

I don't know and I'm not going to find out. But if you are, by all means, let me know how it goes.

I can not even imagine going to this. Pay thirty bucks for what??? Since you did the preview I think you should do the review.

The Art of Loving hold great sex positive events. I feel lucky to live in a city where the option to attend such workshops is available. Nothing wrong with educating yourself but maybe the public environment isn't for everyone.

I totally agree. Sex positive events are a good thing. I am curious about this particular event, though. I wouldn't guess it to be for people who have problems with the big O so much as for people who are looking to take it to the next level. Interesting, but in that case, it would seem to be useful to a limited community.

I'm with the writer. Exactly who isn't sex positive these days? What does that exactly mean? Even the most conservative people I know enjoy sex, they just don't hold seminars. I would think an extreme minority have never brought themselves to an orgasm. Probably appeals to the "I feel repressed even though I practically do everything" crowd.

That's what I think too. Also, I've noticed that if you say anything even remotely questioning about events like this, suddenly you're excluded from being "sex positive".
