The Tradition [Gasp] Continues With New Vancouver Canucks Jerseys

canucksjersey20070829.jpgI was naive enough to think that the Canucks would pull a fast one on us and unveil a uniform that didn't disappoint.

I was willing to accept that Johnny Canuck wouldn't be used and that it would be pretty much like last year's uni except with the vintage colours.

What I wasn't expecting was the fugly Vancouver lettering above the Orca.

Response from fans has been fast and furious.

On the Canucks' official message board, a thread entitled "Official the new jerseys suck thread" is already 10 pages long--and the jersey was only unveiled at noon today.

On sports talk radio station the TEAM 1040 a poll asking, Do you think the new Canucks uniform is an improvement over the old one? 47 percent said Yes, 53 percent said No.

One fan at the unveiling sarcastically said, it's nice that Vancouver was on it otherwise we wouldn't know what city we live in.

The jerseys are out already, although they don't go on sale 'til September, but maybe the Canucks should've done what the Vancouver Giants did when they broke into the WHL.

Design a few mockups, post them on the team's website and have the fans vote on which one they wanted.

Another fan at the unveiling drew a parallel to the Anaheim Ducks jersey, which was unveiled last year and was met with jeers and boos.

They ended up winning the Cup.
