The Fall of Jim Rome?

jimrome080722.JPGOne of the reasons I like the TEAM 1040 sports radio is because of the wide range of sports talk shows.

I know the emphasis is on the local scene but I also like hearing about other sports too.

That's where shows like ESPN's early morning Mike & Mike show and "The Jungle" with Jim Rome come in.

I like hearing about the local teams but I also like hearing about American college football and basketball and MLB as well.

I particularly like "The Jungle."

Rome is an acquired taste and can be grating if you aren't used to his style.

Yes, he's extremely sarcastic; yes he ridicules his callers if he doesn't agree with them and yes there is a lot of dead air; still it's easily one of my favorite shows.

That's why I was a little concerned when I read Greg Douglas' Dr. Sport column this weekend and found out that TEAM 1040 program director, Rob Gray was considering a format change that would see "The Jungle" on tape delay--the good doctor also went on to say nothing was set in stone.

It kind of reminds me of a similar situation when Dan Patrick's ESPN radio show was moved and former TEAM 1040er Brooke Ward has given the noon slot.

A lot of people were pissed off then and I'm willing to bet a lot of people will be feeling the same way if Romey is delayed.

I can't stand Jim Rome. Being opinionated is one thing, but he's a pompous asshole and his jokes rely on the type of humour that only adolescent boys find funny.

I agree with you about wanting to hear about MLB, US college, and more NFL, but surely they can find someone local - or just less irritating - to talk about it.

I agree and disagree with you. I can see why you don't like him but I don't really think it's his jokes per se that are juvenile; it's his listeners, aka "The Clones," that go nuts with the toilet bowl humor.

Not everyone will get Rome but it is the best sports show on radio. It occasionally can be a train wreck but when it works it is genuine performance art and a breath of fresh air on vancouver radio. We don't need another three hours of Canuck fans wringing their hands over another meaningless game in another endless hockey season.

Agreed.
