The Pervert's Guide to Cinema is all about Mother, and so is everything else as far as psychoanalyst Slavoj Zizek is concerned, with his Freudian ways. Still, it is an excellent film, as it makes enjoyable what might very well have been a rather dull lecture on Oedipus and Id had it taken place in an auditorium. Instead we have a film about how movies teach us to desire.

The doctor breaks the wall between reality and film, inserting himself into the sets of the films he discusses. Some recreations of sets, such as when he sits in for Neo in the Red Pill / Blue pill scene, or when he sits on the couch that Dennis Hopper was sitting on in the "Baby wants to fuck" scene in Blue Velvet. While I might not see the birds in the Hitchcock film as representing Mother, this is a great film to start off the film fest with.
