Now that's fast fiction

Do you think you could write a piece of short fiction a day? That's what Vancouver writer Kevin Spenst has been doing publicly for the past year on his blog Fast Fictions. Self-described as a 'daily dose of strange little stories', Fast Fictions features a piece of micro-fiction a day with titles as far-ranging as 'Granola in the Barrel of a Gun' to 'Sausages in Your Vortex'.

Each Fast Fiction is the result of the collaborative sharing of illustrations, paintings and photographs from a network of contributors. Kevin receives a visual work, and this inspires the story. Recent fiction 'spring-boards', as Kevin likes to call them, have included artwork submissions by Tony Millionaire, Lee Misenheimer, Mark Ryden, and Marieta Tsenova. Vancouverites who have provided artistic fodder include painter Kerry Vaughn Erikson, the pen and ink work of Mark DeLong and Ehren Salazar's surreal sketches.
If short bytes of electronic fiction aren't enough for you-this November Kevin will be giving a series of 12 public readings of his short fictions in one night. Find out details of his Right Under Your Nose reading series by connecting to his site.
