Vroom! Vrrooom! Ah yes, hot on the heels of yet another cinematic installment of The Fast and The Furious is a real, live pantheon to all things fast, sexy and sleek.

The 5th annual Driven to Perform (DTP) Tour makes its way to Vancouver next Saturday, June 24th. Gearheads and car enthusiasts will have a entire day to oggle the latest performance cars, SUVS, bikes and luxury vehicles. The exhibition will also include a competition area for advance registrants eager to show off their pimped out rides and the usual assortment of show booths from the show's main sponsors (Toyo Tires, Mobil 1, Honda, etc.)

I was completely psyched out about entering my tricked out '97 Camry into the competitive fray this year. Having augmented my baby with a giant, sky-scraping spoiler, phat alloy rims and a ferocious paint job of fiery red flames licking away at my front panels, I knew that no other vehicle stood a chance.

Of course, I kid about my Camry Power. It's sitting under a tree, looking quite abused and it badly needs a wash.

Even if your spine doesn't tingle at the sound of revving engines and import cars modded to high heaven with body kits, DTP 2006 still has a lot of spectacle to offer. If gawking at hot cars isn't your thing, you can gawk at the contingent of nubile car models sure to be sashaying around the show floor doing photo ops and signing paraphenalia. Completing the picture will be a lot of jumping and jivin' at the Pepsi Sound Stage, which will play host to the Canadian Street Dance Championships. Watch as various dance crews from around the country attempt to out-serve each other in their battle for the Pacific Northwest dancing crown. First-place winners will also receive a $1000 Harbour Dance scholarship, $750 and a professional photo shoot.

Poke around your copy of Georgia Straight for the DTP ad, clip and save it to get $2 off the admission ticket price. Tickets are only available at the gates on the day of the show.

What's wrong with cars? What's wrong blogging with writers with different interests than you?

This post makes me feel kind of sad.

I don't know if it's the phrase "automotive lifestyles", or the pimped-out rides, or maybe the sashaying models signing paraphernalia (???), but there is definitely something disheartening about this post.

I think I will take Clinton's advice and pretend this event is not taking place in this city and is not deserving of public interest. I only wish I could count on the support of the Beyond Robson staff in maintaining this fragile yet comforting delusion.

i personally hate this kind of corporate oil-burning ego crap. But bloggers can write about whatever the hell they want to, hence "blogging".

Indeed they can. I also think that commenters should be free comment about their honest reactions to posts, even when their reactions are negative. Hence "commenting."
