Naam2.jpg One of my favourite things to do in this city is brunch at The Naam. It's not about the food, which is homey, but not especially special, particularly since I'm a carnivore and have no plans to go veg in the foreseeable future. It's just about the vibe. I love The Naam vibe.

The service is slow and the place just the teeniest bit grotty, but The Naam's got charm. With it's driftwoody decor and hippie atmosphere, it's classic Vancouver. At least, it's what people seem to expect when they think of Vancouver, and stereotypes aren't always a bad thing. You know, once in awhile it's okay to cater to a visitor's illusions.

Anyway, when I first moved here, The Naam was one of the first places my friends told me to go to eat. "It's practically a landmark," they said. "And the food's really good!" As said, I'm not really sold on that last bit, because The Naam's vegetarian, often organic, often vegan cuisine isn't exactly my bag, but the first part is definitely on the mark.

Naam1.jpg In my experience, The Naam is at its best around 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday mornings. It's always crowded at that time (you may even have to wait in line), but it's the good kind of crowded, packed with groups of friends, happy families, and couples. And as a result, the often abysmally slow service isn't so slow. Plus, with a weekend day ahead of you, even if it is, you might not mind.

There's only one thing that bothers me about breakfast at The Naam and that's the faux-sausages. They're yummy, but every time I eat one, I wonder, "What IS this stuff?"

Faux meaty goodness, that's what.

I love The Naam! Especially at 3am...the best place to go after the club! The sesame fries with miso gravy are the my favourite...or the croissant melt...mmmmm.

oh man i've had the worst service there when going in the late hours. never again. but the morning staff are way nicer in a pretentious kind of way.

They do have the best Tofu scramble around.
I'd also love to know what's in those "sausages" they are delicious.

In my experience, service at the Naam is inversely proportion to my hunger. E.g if I'm starving it takes an hour, if I couldn't care less food arrives right away. It doesn't seemt to matter how busy the place is, or what time of day.
A true Vancouver landmark. Yum.
