Skating For Michael Cuccione

Ever remember the show 2ge+her featuring Chris Farley's younger brother Kevin?

It chronicled the adventures of a fictional boy band and lampooned groups such as New Kids on the Block, *NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys between 1999 and 2001.

The show also starred local talent Michael Cuccione, who played Jason Q.T. McKnight

Cuccione was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma at age nine and was able to beat the disease twice but complications arose from the various treatment.

Throughout this time Cuccione raised funds and awareness for cancer research even recording a CD entitled "Make A Difference" which raised $130,000 for the cause.

Darren Dissegna was a friend of Cuccione's and first met Michael in the Sound Sensations choir.

The actor who played Q.T. McKnight needed a ride to his uncle's house and coincidentally it was near Dissegna's place so he offered to give Cuccione a lift.

"On the way home we started talking about our experiences at Children's Hospital, including funny stories," Dissegna said.

"It was a half hour ride back home and within [that time] we became really good friends and we started hanging out a lot, he was a great kid."

Although Cuccione passed away in January 13, 2001, his foundation continues to raise funds for research across North America.

On January 20, 2008 the 8th Annual Skate For A Cure event takes place at the home arena of Michael's favorite team, the Vancouver Canucks.

The fundraising event offers ice time at G.M. Place for people who raise a minimum of $150 and proceeds go towards cancer research.

Prizes will be available for top fundraisers, including the chance to lead the Canucks out before a game.
